This is a really good tutorial to learn about lighting. Daniel explains it very clear with drawings on the pictures where the ligth is coming from. Has helped me a lot with seeing the light!

Daniel is a fantastic teacher. I learned a lot about his process of looking for open shade, shadows, and open sky. Seems like a great formula. I need to now go out and train my eyes and shoot. Hopefully I will see the light. Thanks Dan. Your images are nothing but amazing. Thanks for drawing things on the pictures to show where light is coming from and what your thought process was.

WOW. I feel like my previous understanding of light in photography (chasing golden hour, for example) all just went out the window, replaced by Daniel’s focus on finding the “open shade” and watching the base of tree trunks to pinpoint exactly where the sunlight is coming from. Excited to dig into your other workshops!

Again, I’ve picked up on so much in this one tutorial that now I can’t wait to go out and look at light in a different light! Pun intended. Understanding how to read the light situation before placement is something I want to be able to do. This video helped me understand how to practice that. Thank you again!

Very informative and eye opening. From now on, when I’m scouting locations I am going to look for the shadows!
