In this tutorial you’ll be coming with us on location and shooting with a $400 camera setup in an awesome sunflower field!

  • You’ll be driving along with us looking for that perfect light in a sunflower field!
  • We explore the location and I will show you where I’m finding the light!
  • I’ll show you the gear being used, explain my intent, understand the colors and creative
  • Watch me as I go through the different lenses and poses and how I interact with Amy in order to create the mood
  • We’ll review the results and I’ll be sharing my experience using the setup and the challenges faced
  • As I shoot you’ll see the resulting images on the screen!
  • We’ll look at the differences between the nifty fifty 50mm f1.8 and the 80-200 f2.8 with regards to colors and contrast
  • Understanding the reasoning behind shooting a custom kelvin white balance because of the above point! (They are interlinked)
  • Go through the entire edit of one of the images from the shoot in Lightroom and Photoshop
  • Understanding how I use the Camera calibration module in lightroom to recalibrate the colors of the image
  • My full process in Lightroom of the initial edit phase and preparing the image for editing in Photoshop
  • I will show you what I see as micro distractions, clean up skin tones and so much more in Photoshop!

    This is one of several of Daniel’s lessons I’ve watched. His skills are clearly demonstrated in his photographs, but there are a lot of very good photographers and LR/PS artists out there. What sets these tutorials apart are that they are a) beginning-to-end — in some cases starting at location scouting all the way through completion, where most others are a ‘how-to’ of one specific aspect. The other difference is that he clearly enjoys teaching and wants his viewers to learn and apply these techniques. I look forward to learning more, developing these skills with the sample files he includes, and finally to applying all this my own portraits.
